Tuesdays Soccer – by Chris. Carling Cup, quarter finals Blackburn - Arsenal 2.80 - 2.60 What is happening to Blackburn? They have picked up just four points from their last six games and left punters totally perplexed. Both R Savage and S Reid were back in the starting line up at the weekend and I thought that the Blackburn squad looked like a first class starting line up. Wigan scored three first half goals and the Blackburn players were all over the place. There was a Blackburn fight back, but down to 10 men, they finally lost the match 3-5. Allowing Wigan to score 5 goals is as bad as being knocked out by Larissa in the UEFA Cup. Both these things have now happened to Blackburn but the worst thing is that coach Hughes doesn’t seem that bothered these days. He was happy with their come back against Wigan. That observation aside, according to R Savage, this quarter final is their biggest game of the season. B Emerton will not be involved tomorrow. Arsenal are likely to change their team in up to eleven different positions with Bendtner, Da Silva, Walcott, Denilson, Senderos, Song, Fabianski and Gilberto all likely starters. The Arsenal youngsters have done wonders in the Carling Cup before but I will give Blackburn one more chance tomorrow. If they should fail again I wil have to believe that there is something basically very wrong at Ewood Park. Home win! (2.80). Arsenal 3 Blackburn 2
Manchester City - Tottenham 2.35 -
3.10 I said after the game that City would never have lost the match if Elano had been playing on the day. Tomorrow Elano will be back but S Ireland remains suspended. Joe Hart will come in for Isaksson in goal. According to Sven he will field the strongest squad that he can and Bianchi will play up front. Sven used a lot of fringe players in the first rounds of the Carling Cup but then he played his strongest side in the last round away to Bolton. That was after their 0-6 loss to Chelsea and he wanted to give his players a chance to redeem themselves. Tottenham will miss the suspended R Keane. M Dawson could not play at the weekend and he is very much an injury doubt again. If you consider the excellent home form of Man City this season, I guess you have to back the very tempting odds of 2.35. Man City 0 Tottenham 2 Chris. |
