Champions League, second legs
Milan - Arsenal 2.16 - 4.02
Key players Kaka, Pirlo and Nesta will be back for
Milan but Seedorf looks like he will be missing. His
absence is a major blow as Seedorf is a man for the
big occasions. How often have we seen him being
quite brilliant in high profile games but a bit
casual and lazy in the bread and butter fixtures?
Count on Pippo Inzaghi and Pato to play up front for
Milan.
Arsenal have included Van Persie in their squad,
along with Eboue but missing are Toure, Rosicky and
Eduardo of course. Theoretically coach Wenger knows
exactly what to do: "We have to stifle the influence
of Kaka". Easier said and done. Milan are probably
the most experienced side we have on this top
European level. They have so many different game
plans and how can one forget how Man United were
outclassed by Milan last season. Then again go back
a few years, 2003 to be exact, when Arsenal visited
Milano for a game with Inter. Arsenal were huge
under dogs at that time but returned home with an
excellent 5-1 victory. Leave to much space to
Arsenal and their speedy attacks will hurt you, but
Milan coach Ancelotti is well aware of. This. My
head says the home win, but my heart says Arsenal. I
am old enough to follow my heart (4.02).
Inter 0 Arsenal 2
Barcelona - Celtic 1.28 - 15.00
The odds look just about right. Celtic cannot beat a
club like Barcelona away from home, no way! The
Celtic coach Strachan had to admit that Barca were
deserved winners in the first leg at Celtic Park,
which highlights just how superior Barcelona were on
the day. At the weekend however Barcelona let me
down by losing to A Madrid, 2-4. Messi and YaYa
Toure started on the bench, but both should play
from the start tomorrow. R Marquez is a major injury
doubt.
The Celtic midfielder S Brown was suspended for the
first leg but he will be back for this game. Hinkel
is cup tied and the defender will probably be
replaced by Caddis again. If Barcelona really had to
win this match 1.28 would be OK on the home win. Now
one could easily skip the bet. Nevertheless I go for
the home win (1.28).
Barcelona 1 Celtic 0
Manchester Utd - Lyon 1.41 - 9.00
Ronaldo, W Rooney, Vidic and R Giggs were all left
out of the United line up at the weekend. Giggs is
considered an injury doubt for this match but the
other three world class players will be certain
starters at Old Trafford. Lyon will field an
offensive formation. Govou and Ben Arfa on the two
flanks and Benzema their front runner. Cris could
start in defence, but his colleague Reveillere is
out suspended. Clerc will probably play on the
Reveillere position. Home win for United (1.41) and
we will most likely see plenty of goals.
Man Utd 1 Lyon 0
Sevilla - Fenerbahce 1.45 - 8.00
I take it for granted that Sevilla will win this
second leg but I am not crazy about the odds (1.45).
With a view on this cup fixture players like L
Fabiano, Keita, Capel, Escude and Dragutinovic did
not play for Sevilla at La Coruna. It proved costly
but tomorrow all five of them will be included in
the Sevilla starting line up, with the exception of
Dragutinovic who is a doubtful starter.
Kezman, Alex, Deivid, just some of the offensive key
players in the Fenerbahce team. Their offensive
defender R Carlos is out injured. Not many, if any,
teams can hope for a positive result when they visit
Sevilla for a big game. My choice is easy in other
words. The home win. The price is a let down (1.45).
Maybe too much has been made of the absence of R
Carlos?
Sevilla 3 Fenerbahce 2
The Championship
Leicester - Preston 2.20 - 3.50
It was a deserved away win by Leicester at Cardiff
at the weekend. Coach Holloway was for once a
satisfied man afterwards. His side,
energised by new signings,
has been far from impressive this far, but obviously
they took a step in the right direction against
Cardiff. Lee Hendrie, the ex - A Villa and S United
midfielder, signed for Leicester on loan last week
and he made his debut vs Cardiff. N'Gotty replaced
the suspended Mc Auley in defence. He did an
excellent job and no guarantee that McAuley will
find himself in the starting line up tomorrow.
Preston were poor in their home game with C Palace
(0-2). Coach Irvine is talking about making changes
in his line up. N Mellor and L Neal could start
instead of K Hawley and S Whaley. M Hill will once
again replace the suspended Callum Davidson. And
once again R Chaplow is a major injury doubt.
Definitely backing Leicester tomorrow (2.20).
Leicester 0 Preston 1
Charlton - Bristol City 2.20 - 3.66
I like to oppose the league leaders in the
Championship. Last week I opposed the previous
leaders Stoke twice, with a 100 % success rate. This
time I will back Charlton against the present
leaders, B City (2.20).Charlton boss Pardew changed
his defence on two positions at the weekend away to
S United. It worked out just fine with Charlton
keeping a clean sheet (2-0 win). This very much
contrasted with their 3-5 loss at Blackpool. Sodje
and Youga from the start again tomorrow and
offensively their latest signing, the Chelsea winger
S Sinclair, could also find himself in the starting
line up. Or maybe he will be used as a substitute.
Andy Gray should also be available again.
Bristol City continue without both L Carey and B Orr
and they will most likely field an unchanged side
tomorrow. They have lost their last two games in
London, against Q P R and Crystal P and I suggest
that this trip will also prove unsuccessful. Home
win! (2.20).
Charlton 1 Bristol City 1
