KLM Open.
Last year was the first time this course has
been used for some time. At 6626 yards, this is
a very short course by tour standards and this
will give even the shortest of drivers a chance,
but of course the big hitters could over power
it. Like many short courses, the only defence
against very low scoring is wind. Last weeks
course in Stockholm was a case in point, another
short track that the pros were expected to
murder, as it was, 6 under was the winning score
as the wind was up all weekend. It was
interesting that it was won by Mikko Ilonen, who
was one of the most highly ranked putters going
into the event.
This weeks host course is the Kennemer Golf and
Country Club and much like last week, is a short
par 70 course which is usually played in windy
conditions. The form from last week really
should be a very good guide as to who will be
hot and who will not. Ilonen’s win might be the
biggest hint. On a course that short hitters
were not be handicapped by lack of distance off
the tee, and that longer hitters were driving
some of the par 4’s, it is likely that on this
similar course, current form and good putting
are the pointers to likely contenders.

Runner up last week, 4th here in 2006, a good
player on and around the greens. Was 4th in the
Madeira Open earlier this year, another short
course that can be very windy. Clearly he will
have his conditions and this is not a very
strong field of players. Perhaps the best putter
in the field.
0.5 point e/w David Higgins @ 80/1 generally

game when in 2nd place on Sunday. His 'bottle'
must be questioned when in contention)
In good form with a 3rd (Challenge Tour ) and
10th in his last two outings. Accurate but short
of the tee, his strength is on the greens. His
previous best result on tour was 4th in the 2005
Madeira Open and he was 9th on another shortish
course in Austria earlier this season. Another
form player who will have his favoured
conditions.
0.5 point e/w Martin Erlandsson @ 80/1 with

really in contention but last round 64 showed
what he can do. Perhaps struggled with the windy
conditions in the first 3 days).
Another player who can be very hot with the
putter. Not having much of a season, but played
better in the windy conditions last week and if
he has a good week with the short stick, might
be up near the top come Sunday.
