Golf – Open de Espana.
This course hosted the 2004 Open de Sevilla and
winner Ricardo Gonzalez hit just 30% of the fairways
from the tee but averaged 304 yards for driving.
Clearly this is a course that suits the big bombers.
GIR and putting will also play an important part,
but big hitters have to be respected.
1 point e/w Ricardo Gonzalez @ 40/1 with Skybet.

Winner on the course in 2004 and also a winner in
Spain in 2003. He enjoys playing in this part of the
world only missing two cuts in Spain and scoring a
total of seven top 20 finishes, including his 19th
in the Open de Andalucia last month. His current
form is reasonable 17/67/6/19/44 in 2008 and he hits
the ball a mile, ranked 13th for driving
distance on the European tour.

Another long driver (ranked 15th for
driving distance) who likes a bit of room on the
fairways. His current form is very good 5/10/5/39/9
and he looks like he should be winning again soon.
1 point e/w Gonzalo Fernadez-Castano @ 35/1 with
Skybet, Stan James.

Played very well last time out in Portugal and that
5th place finish marked a return to form
Gonzo has won three tour events, once every year
since he joined in 2005.
0.5 point e/w Emanuele Canonica @ 125/1 generally
available.
MC - lost 1 point
He has only one win to his name (2005 Johnnie Walker
at Gleneagles) but if he is to win again it will be
on a course that rewards the big hitters (ranked 14th
for driving distance). He had a great chance here in
2004, going into the final round in 3rd
place only to blow up. He has had two top 20’s this
season and on a course that will suit he could be a
dark horse this week.
Adding:
4 points David Lynn to beat Peter Hanson @ 1.91 with
Stan
James.
won 3.64 points
On
current form Lynn is the pick here. His last four
events read 6/21/8/mc and the mc was by just one
stroke and the result of a poor first round. He was
16th here in 2004 and has three top 10 finishes in
his last five events played in Spain. Hanson won
this event on a different course but his current
form is not good mc/61/54/mc. Accuracy is his
strength and to do well on a big hitters course he
would need to be at the top of his game, which
clearly he is not.
