Golf – Johnnie Walker Classic.
With five par 5’s, the Gleneagles course is very
much suited to the big bombers off the tees and is
very unlike the courses used in Europe for the last
two tour events, so the most recent form is not
going to be as good a guide as normal. A liking for
the course and the ability to drive the ball along
way is key. Paul Casey fits the bill, long driver
and two time course winner, but 9/1 for a player
whose form has been only fair for a few months now
is hardly value. Historically this event has thrown
up some big price winners and it is worth going for
a few big priced players.

(e/w first 6 places)
lost 2 points
One of the up and coming young players on the
European Tour, Kaymer as been in contention a few
times this season, runner up in Scandinavia last
time out. There may be some question marks about his
‘bottle’ but it is a little early in his career to
be attaching the Timeform Squiggle to him just yet.
He drives it long, is in good form and reckoned to be
a winner in waiting by many judges. No course form,
but it should be to his liking and a 7.50 tee time
should allow him the opportunity of scoring well
while the weather is at its best.
0.5 point e/w Emanuele Canonica @ 80/1 with
Boylesports (e/w first 6 places)
lost 1 point
Canonica averages over 300 yards off the tee and won
this event in 2005, his only win to date. He has the
advantage of a very early tee of time tomorrow
morning and the forecast is for the conditions to be
getting windier in the afternoon, so he will have
the best of the conditions. His form this year is
not great but this is his kind of course and worth a
small bet.
0.5 point Jose- Filpe Lima @ 150/1 with Skybet
lost 1 point
Like Canonica,
Lima is long off the tee, tees off early, but is not in good
form. He was 2nd in the BMW International
at the end of June, on another course that rewards
the long drivers, so he ill have the kind of course
that suits his game. An interesting long shot.
