Golf. Open de France. This event has been dominated by big priced outsiders in recent years. Looking at the stats it is clear that accuracy from tee to green is very important. 2 points e/w Anders Hansen @ 20/1 with Ladbrokes, Coral, BetFred lost 4 points With accuracy being so important on this course, Anders has to be on anyone’s shortlist. Ranked 2nd for driving accuracy and 5th for greens in regulation; he is the most accurate player on tour. At Wentworth and at last weeks BMW Championship he was hitting over 80% of fairways with his tee shots, that is very impressive. Add to this the fact that he has three top 8 finishes here in the last 5 years, that he has had a win and a 4th in his last events in 2007 and he looks a standout bet. I opposed him last week and was proven very wrong. This week he has my full support. 1 point e/w Oliver Wilson top UK & Ireland player @ 50/1 with Paddy Power. lost 2 points Could he be this years Bickerton? Wilson has a similar game to last years winner, a straight hitter who is not a great putter. He is in good form, with 7 top 25 finishes in his last 10 events and I was hoping to find him in some match bets, but no joy. However, he looks good value in this market as only Dredge, Khan and Dougherty are averaging lower scores on recent form. His course form is poor, but he is only in his 3rd season and playing better than he previously has. There are only 9 UK or Irish players ranked above him in the O.O.M and 4 of them are not entered this week. Wilson is ranked 14th for stroke average, with just 2 UK or Irish players better than that. He looks very under-rated to me. 6 points Sterne to beat Poulter @ 5/6 with Boylesports lost 6 points There is no one in better form than Richard Sterne (last 8 events 1/2/2/5/5/37/3/1), an incredible seven top 5 finishes on three different tours. O.K., Poulter has been playing in stronger events but he is not in top form and struggling to hole out his putts. No surprise that Sterne won their only H2H this season at Wentworth. |
