Indonesian Open. This looks like a very poor event, giving a big chance to some of the lesser lights of the golfing world a chance to get a 2 year European Tour card. It would be no surprise to see a big priced winner, but picking one in a weak field, on a course that few have any experience of, looks near impossible. One player who may be worth backing is the very well thought of English youngster, Oliver Fisher. Widely tipped as the next Superstar of British golf, the young man has already shown good form in his first 4 pro tournaments, making every cut and finishing a good 11th in his last event in Qatar. His lack of experience is the reason for the big price, but this guy is the real deal and groomed for time big success. He may well struggle on these grainy greens, but he is young, fit, fearless, very gifted and could do a Tiger and win his first tour event, on his 5th pro start (and Tiger was 50/1 that time too!). 1 point e/w Oliver Fisher @ 50/1 with ToteSport and Extrabet. lost 2 points Nissan Open. A good old fashioned course that requires good course management rather than the usual target golf challenge of many US courses. Non American players have done well in recent years and look set to do so again with a strong overseas line up, including Els, Goosen, Singh, Scott, Harrington and Donald to name a few. 1 point e/w Robert Allenby @ 40/1 generally available. won 9 points Off to a great start in 2007 with 3 top 10 finishes from his 3 events played. He has a great all round game, just what is required on this course. A winner here in 2001 and 7th in 2005. Must have a great chance at a very sporting price. Match Bets: Yes the ones you looking for to find the picks to oppose! A strong bet to start with. 8 points Allenby to beat Weir @ 10/11 with SportingOdds. won 7.27 points Weir may be a two time winner here, but his current form is poor and he has flopped at two other recent events in which his course record was massively strong. He missed the cut at Pebble Beach last week and was well down the field at the Bob Hope. He is tinkering with his swing and clearly isn’t all working yet. Allenby we have covered already. The Aussie has both good course form and good current form and really should win this match up. 5 points Robert Karlsson to beat Daniel Chopra @ 1.88 with Unibet (tie no bet) won 4.44 points Chopra may have a lot more US tour experience but his record at Riviera is shocking with 3 MC’s and never shot better than 71. Karlsson has started the year well after a great finish to 2006, while Chopra’s best effort was 11th last week. Karlsson has only played here once, back in 1999, but finished an impressive 9th, so he should come here with good vibes. He made two top 30’s in the states late last year and should be good enough for another on a course that the Europeans find to their liking. 4 points Bryant to beat K.J. Choi @ 1.97 with Unibet (tie no bet) won 3.88 points Bryant has found his game again (4TH &7TH last two) and looks like he is in one of his long runs of high finishes, never close to winning, but just getting top 20 finishes and picking up nice cheques. He finished 23rd here last year. Choi on the other hand has missed his last two cuts after a bright start to the season. His course record is mixed, a 5th in 2003 and 13th in 2005, but the rest has been 30th or lower. |
