Mercedes Benz Championship – Gut Larchenhof. GC.
No cut for this elite field of 78 players. The
course played host the old Linde Masters for many
years and it is a Nicklaus design which does seem to
favour the longer drivers as they can reach the par
5’s in 2. Traditionally the scoring is low and with
the weather set to be reasonable for all 4 days, it
will be another birdie fest.

This is a course that should suit the big hitting US
Open winner very nicely and he has had a couple of
decent finishes in recent years, 9th in
2005 and 11th in a rain shortened event
in 2000. There is always the worry with Cabrera that
he doesn’t really care if he wins or not and he has
not played well since winning the US Open in June.
There were signs that he is coming back to form with
two decent results in America in the last fortnight,
23 rd and 30th in stronger fields than
this.

Another big hitting
Argentinean
who loves the course. His last 4 outings at Gut
Larchenhof have produced form figures of
7/19/17/10. His 2007 form is not great but it was
interesting that is best two finishes this season
came in the BMW International in
Germany on another big hitters track, and in the
recent Johnnie Walker Championships at Gleneagles ,
another course designed by Jack Nicklaus. A decent
price on a player that should be competitive this
weekend.
1 point e/w Nick Dougherty @ 25/1 with BlueSq,

I
am not a huge fan of Dougherty from a punting point
of view as he does tend let winning chances slip
through his fingers. However, with course form
figures of 3/wd/ 6/2, he cannot be ignored. His
recent form is not totally convincing but his 2nd
in Sweden recently suggests that he is in pretty
good shape.
6
points Fredrick Andersson-Hed to beat Louis
Oosthuizen @ 1.88 with Unibet
Won 5.28 points
Andersson-Hed is having a reasonable season, three
top 6 finishes in April/May and was back in the top
10 last time out at the Johnnie Walker at
Gleneagles. Oosthuizen has had three top 4 finishes
this season, but his recent form is very poor, with
the exception of a 4th place in the
Scottish Open, he has missed every cut in his last 7
events. Neither has played this course particularly
well and this looks likely to be decided on current
form and it is the Dutchman who is well ahead on
that front.
