Golf -  World Match Play.

It’s time for The World Match Play from Wentworth, Autumn has arrived.

4 points Simon Khan to beat Michael Campbell @ 7/4 BlueSq, Ladbrokes, BetDirect

lost 4 points

A dismissive quote for Khan who has been playing better golf than Campbell in recent months. Since the French Open Campbell has managed just 3 rounds under 70 (from 23 rounds) while Khan has 10 rounds under 70 from 24. His immediate recent form may not look good MC/47/DQ, but the missed cut was at the USPGA on a rare jaunt to the US, the 47th in Germany was looking more like a top 15 until a final round 79 ruined his weeks work and he was -3 at the halfway way point in Switzerland when disqualified. Campbell is the defending Champion and has a good record at Wentworth, but Khan proved that he can play the course when finishing second here in the BMW Championship back in May.

Open De Madrid.

A strange time of the season, with the majors finished and the Ryder Cup team selected. Many of the ‘name players’ will be winding down, others focusing on next weeks Ryder Cup, leaving the door open for some of the Tours lesser lights to shine. Certainly outsiders have a good record in this event and as it is being played at a ‘new’ venue, the lack of course form opens the event up. The Course is short but with tight fairways and lots of dog legs, it should suit accurate shot makers, rather than the big hitters.

0.5 point e/w Alexandre Rocha @ 150/1 with BlueSq, Stan James.

A seven time winner on the South American and Canadian tours, Rocha has hit some good form on the European Tour, 6th in the Russian Open and 8th in the BMW International. He missed the cut in Switzerland last week, but that is a very peculiar course which players either take too or not. His strengths are accuracy of the tee and to the greens 71% of fairways hit, and 68% of greens in regulation, which is very impressive. His putting is nothing exceptional but good enough at 1.8 per hole. The fact that he is 127th on the money list gives him a big incentive to get a high finish this week and retain his card for 2007.

5 points Philip Archer to beat Soren Hansen @ 10/11 with Ladbrokes.

Hansen is probably the  better player, but Archer is having his best ever season thanks to making a huge improvement in his putts per GIR, ranked 147th last year, now 13th. He is short of the tee but hits over 61% of fairways and an impressive 69% of greens in regulation. He has had some high finishes this season and was 3rd in the Spanish Open earlier this year. Hansen is hard to predict but his most recent form reads mc/mc/14/mc, and he has rarely played well in Spain, just 2 top 20’s from 16 starts. Hopefully he can have a bad week against the steady Archer
