Golf - Indonesia Open. A much weaker field than last week and not a very inspiring betting event. The market is headed by Randhawa, McGinley, Clarke and Atwal which highlights the fact that this event is likely to be wide open. The course is only 6899 yards par 70 and when used back in 2005 it was won by Thaworn Wirachant on 25 under par and in the final round on Sunday Colin Montgomerie shot a round of 60. It fair to say that this course is a ‘pitch ‘n’ putt by today’s standards and likely to come done to who has the hottest putter over the four days. The greens are the only tricky feature of the course and I suspect that those with a good record on the greens and of the generally hot and humid conditions that always prevail in this part of the world, should stand a reasonable chance. 1 point e/w Shiv Kapur @ 33/1 with Ladbrokes, Stan James. lost 2 points Disappointing in his home event last week but it could be that he did not handle the pressure well. His form in Indonesia is good and he was 19th here in 2005. His great strength is his putting and he is currently ranked 4th on the European Tour for putts per GIR. His form in stronger events than this so far this season has been reasonable if a little inconsistent, but he may well be inspired by the victory of fellow Indian SSP Chowrasia last week. He was ranked 1st for putts per GIR in Dubai and these greens will have more in common with the greens there than the rather bumpy ones we saw in India last week. 1 point e/w Thaworn Wirachant @ 40/1 generally available. lost 2 points As mentioned above, Wirachant won here in 2005 by a five shot margin which saw three rounds of 63. He missed the cut last week but that was his first tournament for two months. His form at the end of the 2007 season was good with four top 15 finishes. He was ranked 10th for putting average on the Asia Tour last year and 2nd for birdie scoring, something there will be a lot of this week. 1 point e/w Prayad Marksaeng @ 35/1 with VCBet. lost 2 points Finished 35th in last weeks seasonal opener and while he has no great form in Indonesia, he was the number one ranked putter on the Asian Tour in 2007 and won the end of season Volvo Masters of Asia. He did finish last weeks tournament with a good round of 68, so hopefully the rust will now be off and the wand will be hot. 4 points Andrew Coltart to beat Ignacio Garrido @ 1.98 with Unibet (tie no bet) won 3.92 points The battle of the fading European stars, both of whom are showing some signs of a return to form, but it is the Scot who looks the better bet. Since losing his tour card at the end of 2007 he has been desperately trying to make the most of sponsors invites to get it back. In Qatar he was in with a chance of a shock win before a very poor final round dropped him out of the top 10. Another unexpected sponsors call up saw him dashing back to Dubai from Scotland and again he played three good rounds before a final round 80 ruined the weekend. He played in India last week and the last round nerves kicked in yet again with 81 shots dumping him to outside the top 50. However, three cuts from three is better than Garrido whose last five events have seen four missed cuts with a fine 4th in Abu Dhabi sticking out like a sore thumb. If Coltart makes the cut he should win this, and if he is anywhere near the top 10 on Sunday, laying him big time! |
