WGC – World Cup. $1.4 million for the team winning team of two, but as usual not many of the top players can be bothered to represent their country. Only Ireland, England, Sweden and perhaps USA have teams that look like they could do their countries proud. However with none of those teams at more than 8/1, there is little value to be had, especially has each team is carrying some dead wood. David Howell is a weak link for England, he has had just 1 decent performance in the last 2 months and but for the big money involved in these end of season jolly ups, he would be at home getting his shoulder injury sorted. McGinley is not in the same class as Harrington as has not shown any great form this season. J.J. Henry and Cink represent the USA, hardly the pick of the crop, while Stenson’s Swedish team mate is the out of form Pettersson. This is pretty uninspiring as a betting event, but it may be worth having a speculative each way punt on one of the less fancied teams. 1 point e/w Germany @ 50/1 with Ladbrokes & Corals. won 62.50 points An interesting pairing of Langer and Siem. The Sandy Lane resort course is short with wide fairways, something that will suit both players. Langer will not struggle with his lack of length of the tee, while the big hitting Siem could over power it with his driver. In the alternating shot rounds they could complement each others style to good defect. Form wise, Langer has been playing steadily on the US tour (4 top 25 finishes from last 6 events), while Siem has shown signs that he is getting back to his best with two top 10’s in last 4. Both players have experience of the event, Langer was a winner back in 1990 and 3rd in 1996. Siem has been 4th and 7th on his two outings for Germany. |
