The Tour Championship. Only 27 runners and no Tiger Woods in an event that doesn’t really seem to inspire the worlds best players despite the big money on offer. The likes of Woods and Mickelson can’t be bothered to play, the majors are over and that is all that matters. Some of this small field will be in cruise and collect mode and half the battle this week is guessing which players are really hungry for the win. 2 points e/w Davis Love @ 14/1 Ladbrokes, SportingOdds, BetFred. lost 4 points Since failing to make the Ryder Cup team, Love has played very good consistent golf (last 3 events 4/1/5) and course form is impressive (8/8/5/4). After a lean period Love clearly is getting back to his best and enjoying competing again. He should be in the mix come Sunday and will enjoy plenty of home sport, being a resident of Georgia. His motivation will be strong as he needs just 1 more tour win to earn a lifetime tour card. Being a good putter always improves a players chances and over the last couple of months, no one has putted as well as Love. 5 points Love to beat Singh @ evens with SportingOdds. lost 5 points Singh may have an even better course record than Love, but on recent form you have to fancy the American this time as he is shooting more than 2 shots a round less than the former winner. It may well be that Singh is now on that downward spiral as vital parts of his game are getting worse, especially his putting. 5 points Pernice to beat Curtis @ 10/11 with BlueSq. won 4.54 points Amazingly Curtis has won 2 tour events this year, but still has the worst scoring average of anyone in this limited field. Missing his last 2 cuts suggests that Curtis has gone back to the player he was after winning the Open a few years ago, i.e. not very good. Pernice is hardly a class act himself but has won 5 of these two players last 6 H2H’s. |
