Ryder Cup – Friday 8.00 a.m.

4 points Montgomerie/Harrington to beat Woods/Furyk @ 11/8 with Bet365

lost 4 points

A very tasty opener and not unexpected. Lehman is playing  his ace card first up, but against Monty and Harrington it does not warrant an odds on quote. Let’s remember that Woods has lost more Ryder Cup matches than he has won, he has already matched the all time losing records in four balls and is only 3 of Bernard Hunts terrible record of 8 losses in foursomes. Incredible that the worlds best golfer is so bad at team golf, or is it? Is he to blame? Or is it is team mates? The pressure of playing against the Tiger is well understood, but it must be pretty tough trying to with him. Put yourself in his team mates position. How can you live up to his standards? Ok you can hit the fairways (hence the pairing with straight Jim), but surely you will be perceived as the weaker link. A no win situation.

The fact that Furyk and Woods both got thrashed in the first round of the World Match play at Wentworth highlights the fact that even the world number 1 and 2 are mere mortals over 18 holes. Harrington is a course expert, a home town hero and is teamed with ‘Mr. Ryder Cup’ Monty. It should be very close but I would make the European duo favourites and odd like this are too good to pass up.
