The Nissan Open
Riviera CC, Pacific Palisades,
California
The
Riviera course is a popular course with the players as it is a true
test of golf. It has been known as "Hogan's Alley" ever since Ben
Hogan won 3 times there in the space of 17 months. Players must shape
their tee shots to avoid the bunkers. Both long hitters and accurate
drivers are favoured unusually. The greens are of bentgrass and are
difficult to read. There were only 2 rounds played last year due to
bad weather and although Adam Scott won it was not an official result.

1.95 Donald v
Weir 7 units
Donald is
a very consistent player without winning many tournaments. Last year
he made 17 of 18 cuts and had 12 top 25s and 5 top 10s .Although Weir
has won this event twice in 2003 and 2004 his form last year was not
that good. He had only 6 top 25s and 2 top 10s and 9 missed cuts.

1.95 Verplank
v Stenson 6 units
Verplank has started well this year with 2 second place finishes .
He has played at Riviera 4 out of the last 5 years and had 13 top
25s last year. Stenson has done very well in Europe, finishing 8th
on the money list last year and has already won a tournament this
year . However when Europeans come to the States they often find it
difficult to begin with, especially as he has not played the course
before.

Furyk had 14 top 25s and 10 top10s last year and is far better
than all the players in this group apart from Donald who is the
main danger.

JB Holmes
Oberholser
Leonard
Choi
K.Perry looks good here against Oberhoolser who has just won his
1st tournament so his concentration may suffer this week. JB
Holmes may be very good but it's too early to say.
