Canadian GP – Saturday update. Well, the World Cup is on and the bookies have decided that they will forget about F1 qualifying. As I write only 2 firms on my list have bothered to price up and their odds look about right to me. BMW Sauber are looking very quick again but I expect them to operate the same plan as Silverstone and get in the top 10, but never to compete for pole, just fuel up heavy and go for a long first run. It is not a bad plan as they are not yet able to challenge the top 3 teams in the race, but they can put them selves in the frame for a lucky podium place. For pole it looks like Renault vs. Renault and of course Alonso is simply faster than Fisichella. This is Fisichella's best track by some margin but his qualifying results have never been as good as his race results, so Alonso has to be fancied. I am not a big fan of 4/5 in qualifying as someone could go very low on fuel or Alonso could make a mistake, but it is a bigger price than I would lay. No more bets at this stage. |
