United States GP – Sunday Update.

A pretty normal looking grid for today’s race. McLaren ahead of Ferrari, who in turn head BMW, who head Renault. Heidfeld made a mistake that could have put him into 3rd which shows that BMW are making inroads into Ferrari’s standing as second best car. Whether they will be able to keep up that pace in the race is not clear. Heidfeld will certainly not be carrying a lot fuel, probably less than then the Ferraris.

Renault look to be ‘best of the rest’ out side of the top 3 teams and looking at qualifying it suggests that Kovalainen is carry less fuel than Fisichella who is back in 10th. Fisichella has not made any comments about his qualifying laps being ruined by traffic or a mistake, so I suspect he is running more fuel than his close rivals and looks in good shape for a points finish.

Fisi has only been out of the points twice in first 6 races and one was when he was disqualified last week when heading for a possible podium finish and his 9th in Spain when the fuel rig developed a problem, meaning he had to make 1 extra pit stop, costing him another top 8 finish. Bearing in mind he was around 4/7 to finish in the points before qualifying 11/10 now looks like an over reaction to what is not a bad grid position.

4 points Fisichella to finish in the points @ 11/10 with BetDirect.

Trulli has managed a decent 8th on the grid, ahead of Webber in the Red Bull. At a first look there is not much between them time wise but when you consider the terrible reliability of the Red Bull (just 3 finishes from 6 races for Webber and he lost another gearbox on Friday), the terrible record of Webber at Indianapolis (never completed a race here) and the very impressive record for Trulli (four x 4th and a 5th place). Trulli is 5-1 up in H2H’s with Webber, his only loss was in Canada last week, were Trulli just had too much happening around him and simply lost his concentration and crashed. If he can just keep his mind on the job, he should win this match up.

4 points Trulli to beat Webber @ 19/20 with SportingBet.
