USGP – Saturday Update.

As usual, with the World Cup game between England and Portugal in running as I write, the bookies are less than interested in qualifying for the USGP.

The key to this race is likely to be tyres and after last years debacle Michelin have to be conservative in terms of bring a tyre that will not embarrass them again. They say they are going to be aggressive, but that makes little sense. The two Ferraris were 1-2 this morning, by a comfortable margin and while you have to be wary of practice times, it does show that Ferrari/Bridgestone are likely to be very competitive this weekend. Alonso does not have to win anymore races and perhaps this is a race he will be happy to just pick up another podium with no fuss. It might actually do the sport some good if the run away leader gets beaten.

I will have to go for Schumacher on the evidence of this mornings practice, and hope that Renault are not just playing with the opposition. The odds are not great, 7/4 Schumacher pole is hardly great value and I will pass that up.

I continue to be a supporter of BMW Sauber and they were quick again this morning. Not good enough for pole of course, but a top 10 beckons. Williams have not been good so far and certainly the force is with BMW who are on an upward form curve.
