European GP – Qualifying. Interesting final practice session which showed Ferrari to be quick, very quick and Bridgestone will be pleased to have Ralf Schumacher 3rd. Can anyone stop Schumacher getting his second pole in a row? A lot depends on fuel strategy, but the Red cars appear to have the pace to get pole, if they want it. It is not as vital as at Imola as overtaking is possible here, but nor do need a slower car in front for more than a la p or two. My guess is that they will run a realistic load and will be very much the favourites for pole. Massa is tempting at 12/1 with Skybet, but how often does Schumacher’s team mate out qualify him? Well it is 4-0 to Michael this season. Schumi is best priced 13/8 with Paddy Power, but that is only realistic. H e could make an error, get unlucky the first 2 sessions or simply lose out to a low fuel attack from Button, or even Ralf. Toyota need to make a good show in front of all the employees and bosses at the track. A front row would go down very well. It would not necessarily be the right strategy for the race, but the car is only good for a few points and he can still get them with a low fuel strategy. The car is improving, the motivation is there and Ralfie boy likes the track. Toyota used the low fuel in qualifying regularly last season, so why not again? 1 point e/w Ralf Schumacher to set fastest qualifying lap at 40/1 with Skybet and BlueSq. lost 2 points Qualifying Match Bets: 2 points Fisichella to beat Alonso @ 7/4 with Stan James and Skybet. lost 2 points It is 2-2 all between the team mates this season. Alonso has not really excelled in qualifying this season and of course was doubled fuelled in one, but Fisichella, dodgepot that he is, looks too big at 7/4. 3 points Villeneuve to beat Heidfeld @ 11/10 with Skybet. won 3.3 points These two have been very close in qualifying this season (2-2) but usually the one that was faster in Free 3 has gone on to be faster in qualifying, and Villeneuve was about 1 second faster this morning. Again the price is too big. 3 points Ralf Schumacher to beat Raikkonen @ 9/10 with SportingOdds lost 3 points McLaren have been poor in qualifying all season and have shown very little to suggest an upturn this weekend. If Ralf goes low, he is a ‘schu in’. |
