Australian GP -
Saturday Update.
2 points Toyota vs. Red Bull Tie @ 4/1 with Blue Sq. lost 2 points Either Toyota has run the most sophisticated sandbagging operation since the D-Day landings, or they are running very low on fuel. I have to stick with my pre-season predictions that Toyota is not competitive and despite their double top 10 qualifying should be opposed. The ‘Trulli Train’ has become a well known phenomenon in F1 in the last 2 seasons. He qualifies well, but come the race, the car is a pig, he sulks and the results are a lot poorer than qualifying suggests they might be. Red Bull have also been flattered by Webbers great qualifying abilities. The team is not good enough to score points on merit and I suspect Webber will either retire, or drop back into the midfield. D.C. is stuck out at the back and will have to brilliant to score a point. My feeling is that either Toyota or Red Bull really deserve a point, or inspire confidence that reliability will see them achieve that target. No points for either team looks the value bet @ 4/1. 1 point Fisichella to set fastest lap @ 33/1 with Bet 365. lost 1 point Ferrari have the fastest car but in the long run situations Renault have been very close to the top speeds. They have a problem with getting the tyres to perform over a qualifying lap, but in race conditions the car is very strong. If Raikkonen is able to control the race, he will not need to push at 100% and that leaves an opportunity of a ‘slower’ car to set the fastest lap. Rosberg did it in the opening race in 2006, so why not a flyer on the double world Championship winning Renault team? I was glad to see that the free to air TV feeds are showing a lot more in car shots. Watching this mornings qualifying showed that the Ferrari is a really stable car, very smooth and a likely race winner. The McLaren looked a more difficult beast but obviously pretty good. The car that stood out as the utter runt of the pack was the Honda. No great surprise, as even Honda have told us that it is a great pile of steaming dog mess. It will be re-designed in time for the next race, but in the mean time, Button and Barrichello just have to suffer. Both cars could be running at the end of the race, but I suspect both the drivers would be very happy to have an early retirement. Honda must be opposed. Williams were a big disappointment in qualifying, fast in a straight line, but for whatever reason, slow in the corners. Their times in free practice suggest that they should be in the top 10 and reliability has been good through the winter. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and back them to beat the Honda’s. 4 points Wurz to beat Button @ 11/10 with SportingOdds lost 4 points (thanks DC!) 4 points Rosberg to beat Button @ 1.85 with Unibet. won 3.4 points |
