Australian GP – Friday Update. Few surprises form the two practice sessions this morning. The winter testing form by and large carried through. Ferrari quickest, perhaps 0.2 – 0.3 over McLaren. After the big two we have Renault and BMW very closely matched, with Williams not far off. The big surprise was Super Aguri, knocking on the door of the top 10, but the suspicion is that their times were set on very low fuel runs. Honda were every bit as poor as expected, with no rear end stability under braking, making it very difficult to drive. This is a problem that is not going to be cured this weekend and they remain a team to oppose. Williams’ drivers Wurz and Rosberg set 6th and 8th fastest time respectively and suggest there is more to come. Rosberg was over a second quicker than the Honda of Button, a fair refection of were the two teams stand at the moment. 5 points Rosberg to out qualify Button @ 10/11 with SportingOdds. won 4.54 points The Red Bulls were not impressive and Webber only had 11 laps in the second session after a transmission failure. It looks likely that Neweys’ record of building very fragile cars looks set to continue. 3 points Webber not to finish the race @ 2.30 with Unibet. Lost 3 points Adding: There's not much new put up this afternoon but there is one bet that had me thinking this morning. Webber to out qualify Coulthard @ 10/11 with Stan James. Webber is well known as a qualifying specialist, and in recent years, DC has been regarded as a qualifying donkey. It was nearly a bet, but Coulthard has always been pretty good round this track and with Webber so new to the team, perhaps the odds are just about right. No bet. Next update by 3 p.m. UK-time on Saturday. |
